NOTE THE HILARIOUS ERROR ABOVE AND THE CORRECTION IMMEDIATELY ABOVE!
I found a massive relative of the mushroom family ~ what I 'think' is called Indian Palette, because of the shape ~ about three years past, last day of hunting season. The next year, first day in the woods in the fall, right about now, just looking around, I brought a camera with me, meaning to photograph the thing and to test whether it might hold my weight as a built-in tree seat for later on when deer season was to arrive.
What I found?
Someone had bothered themselves to kick this thing off the side of the gnarled, ages old and stumped-growth hemlock ~ either before or after having proceeded to shoot the hell out of it, leaving it more like a sieve than a solid.
Pissed me off. And I do not mean "...for my selfish reasons." Just a waste of beauty...
Your present post and picture reminded me of it -- and of the current political season, to tell you the truth: our friends are even yet not up to comprehending what [e.g., the Bulgarian people] have lived through from since 1917 until recently [e.g., the so-called "fall of the U.S.S.R.]...and, what's worse, do not seem to want to know.
Okay, say I do not 'know' either; but I am not insensible to the stark reality of such profound imprisonment of the minds and, so, the souls of people such as I encountered so secretly and half-silently in the former East Germany, Czechoslovakia and in Poland in 1973 ~ and even in the West: Portugal (and even Spain, perhaps Italy as well): the presence of machine-gun armed Polizia and Gendarmes pushing people along like cattle is not an act or either encouragement or of civic order: it is Force-of-Law not as a judicial act but as an omnipresence, and nothing lesser.
But...Why am I writing YOU about that?!
Amrys arrived home last night, and Paul came in shortly afterward: all of us are going to a wedding this afternoon (Stephanie's brother Scott to his Beth). She'll be living in Middletown, CT, from the afternoon of Wednesday of next week and thereafter, commuting to Madison as needed. Look for them there from here on. [I suspect you'll find it EASY to make a stop there over time...but I sure wish you'd make Albany part of your itinerary once or twice every three years or so, Fella! It's been awhile...]
